Hillview's official "Outhouse Challenge"
totals for February 2012 are:
Facial Tissues: 16 Boxes
Napkins: 1 pkg
Paper Towels: 62 rolls
Toilet Paper: 930 rolls !!!

Where to next:
The Federated Church in Port Byron has taken up the challenge for the month of March 2012.
--- open date --- April 2012 ---
St. Mary's Catholic Church in Baldwinsville will take up the challenge in May 2012
Meridian Baptist Church in Meridian NY will take up the challenge in June 2012
How about your church ? Will you accept the challenge?
Please support these churches as they work to beat our totals !
The challenge is:
1) Borrow our outhouse for one calendar month.
2) Attempt to fill the outhouse with toilet paper or other paper products (these items are not covered by food stamps)
3) The collected items go to the charity of your choice
4) Your final totals will be written on the wall inside the outhouse -- See if you can beat the totals of the other churches.
5) The only rule is that "a roll is a roll" - each roll counts as one even if it is marketed as a "double roll" or "super size"
6) The only real winner is the people that will be served by the collection effort.
Specifics:
The outhouse measures 46" wide X 35" deep by 8' tall at the peak.
Each side is taken apart individually just by pulling a few pins.
Pastor Joe “caught in the act” !! …… of sermon preparation
On the first Sunday in February the congregation at Hillview Community Church was surprised to find an outhouse had been erected in the front of the church directly beside the pulpit.
Pastor Joe Folckemer and church member Dick Anthony had built the outhouse as an incentive for the February Mission of the Month, which is collecting toilet tissue and paper products for P.E.A.C.E. Inc.
The Church’s normal local outreach is the Hillview Coffeehouse music program, which raises food donations for local area food pantries, but since February typically has very unpredictable weather the church turns to a different method to support local needs during February.
This year it was decided that they would collect toilet tissue and other personal hygiene paper products because these are items that cannot be purchased with food stamps and there is always a shortage.
Pastor Folckemer offered two friendly challenges; first he challenged the congregation of Hillview to fill the outhouse. The second challenge is to other area churches to borrow the outhouse and beat our numbers. The outhouse was made to be easily disassembled and moved.
The church hopes to collect hundreds of rolls and then pass the outhouse on to other churches who would like to devote a month to the collection of toilet paper.
If your church would like to get involved – either by collecting food and personal hygiene items each week or by borrowing the outhouse for your own collection, please call Pastor Joe at 315.638.0357 or email pastor@hillviewcbc.org
